St Ann's Maths Curriculum

Our mathematics curriculum at St Ann’s CE Primary School is designed so that children:

  • become competent and independent mathematicians.
  • become fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics.
  • be able to reason mathematically, and solve problems by applying their mathematics in unfamiliar contexts and real-life scenarios.
  • develop their mathematical talk to that they can articulate, discuss and explain their thinking.
  • develop their growth mindset, resilience in mathematics and be able to persevere when approaching mathematical challenges.
  • develop their mathematical skills and knowledge needed to build on for success in the next stage of their learning and that they become collaborative learners who are able to work together in mathematics.

Ultimately, we strive to provide our children with a mathematics education that provides them with a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject with the aim of them becoming masters of content, applying and being creative with new knowledge in multiple ways.

With the starting point of the National Curriculum Programmes of Study, our curriculum is based on the Power Maths Scheme, though supplemented by a range of resources including White Rose materials, Active Maths, NRICH and NCETM.
